The stone polishing machine

There, my first post on my brand-new blog and it's already Wrong - well, not entirely wrong because I haven't thrown the stone-polishing machine away, but wrong in that I don't have it any more, so can't show you a picture of it, which was what I intended. Actually, even that is not quite right. I didn't intend a blog at all, but envisaged a book, with pictures and samples stuck into it, rather like a scrap book, if anyone remembers those....

The first thing was going to be the twin-tub washing machine that my dad very kindly bought in the sixties to replace the thing we had with a mangle (did we?! did we?! I'm not at all sure the mangle thing wasn't somewhere else. We had a spin dryer which we gave to Granny after we'd got the twin tub.) Anyway, the twin-tub has pride of place in the museum of everything I can't bear to throw away yet and why, because I also have the original guarantee certificate filled out in my dad's beautiful hand-writing, which was why he'd come top of the world in the Naval entrance exam in 1937 or 8. Also, he'd mended the switch dial thing with a bit of meccano which is still on it, though the rubber has rather perished. I do have some photos of both those things, but I don't know where they are. I'll try to find the digital camera and take some more. I'll ask the person I gave it to to send pictures of the stone-polishing machine and I'll write that story another time too.
